Frequently Asked Questions

If you are looking for advice about choosing a tutor or other educational resources, you can check out my education blog!

How does tutoring work?

Standard tutoring sessions are one-on-one with me and your student. Typically, they run one hour long and can take place virtually, at your home, or in another location such as a library or coffee shop.

Students meet with me either once or twice per week throughout the school year. Sometimes, I’ll work with students on a short-term goal or on a semester-to-semester basis.

What are you rates?

I charge $175 per hour for one-on-one tutoring. Clients can pay weekly or monthly.

I also offer online workshops that cover common topics, like essay writing and test prep, for $50 - $75 per student. Additionally, I have a resource hub for a small monthly fee and free YouTube videos and blog posts.

Do I have to commit to weekly tutoring?

Consistency is crucial to success, so I strongly recommend ongoing weekly lessons, unless we are working toward a specific goal, like a college essay or big test. Progress is much more likely with weekly meetings, and I rarely have time in my schedule to take on last-minute bookings. We can always assess things as we go and adjust the frequency of meetings or terminate tutoring when it makes sense to do so.

Do you offer support for parents?

Yes! I teach quarterly online classes to help parents support their children’s academic progress.

I also have a resource hub, which includes free downloads, videos, and some toolkits for purchase.

How do I know if you’re the right tutor?

After an introductory phone call, we’ll schedule a first lesson. I’ll get to know your student and make recommendations based on their needs, such as the frequency of sessions. Afterward, I’ll send you a form and an engagement letter, which you can sign or decline..

I encourage potential clients to try out tutors before making a final decision. A personality match is one of the most important parts of academic coaching.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Any cancellations after 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time the night before a scheduled lesson will incur a cancellation fee equal to half the lesson cost.

Do you offer free trial lessons?

I do not offer free trials, but I do offer a free 30-minute consultation. I also have an extensive collection of free videos, blogs, and other resources that you can review to help determine if I’m the right tutor for you.

How can you guarantee my student gets better grades?

I cannot guarantee certain grades, test scores, college acceptances, or other outcomes. There are numerous factors that impact academic performance and working only an hour or two a week with a student does not allow me oversight of all of them. Workloads can change at any time and a student who was on target can fall behind. I can provide strategies to reduce test anxiety, but I’m not in the room during the test.

Most often, students report feeling more confident and those who are below grade level or behind on work can get caught up. You can read my testimonials for more info.
